Founded by the former Joseph creative director Walid al Damirji, By Walid upcycles artisanal fabrics to produce its exquisitely designed zero-waste collections. Grandchild to the owner of one of Iraq’s largest textile factories, Damiriji’s fascination with art history led him to seek out antique materials such as 19th-century Chinese silk and 18th-century quilts to repurpose, believing that wasting them would be ‘an insult to history’. The result is a collection of heirloom pieces – notably jackets and coats – which are hand dyed and embroidered using traditional techniques, making each one completely unique.
