Issey Miyake
Recognised as one of fashion’s most influential designers, Issey Miyake’s avant-garde approach broke the mould with conceptual designs that transcended the boundaries of seasonal trends. Born in Hiroshima in 1938, the late Japanese creative launched his first collection in New York in 1971 and his ground-breaking ‘A Piece of Cloth’ project – demonstrating that clothes could be simply formed from a singular thread and then come to life through the wearer – continues to inform the ready-to-wear landscape.
