Issey Miyake’s signature pleating – first seen in the late Japanese designer’s main line in 1989 – comes to life in Pleats Please Issey Miyake. Launched as a capsule collection in 1994, the label uses the unique crafting method of adding pleats after the clothes are sewn into shape to bring fluidity and modernity to its simple separates. These bold, experimental wardrobe components are also lightweight, crease-proof and easily packable, reflecting Miyake’s tenet that ‘design is not for philosophy, but for life’. Expect pleated tops, dresses and trousers enlivened with softly sculpted lines, colour blocking and geometric prints.
