10 Minutes with…

Susan FOster

We meet fine jewellery designer Susan Foster to discuss diamonds, the design process and her latest collection.

Talk us through your latest collection.
‘I love the cat’s-eye moonstone pieces. They have a translucent, slightly iridescent beauty. There’s something about them that is just so dreamy and magical, you know? You just feel like you can look inside them, like you’re looking into the depths of the stone.’

What is your design process?
‘When I design I’m always thinking about what resonates with me. So if I design a piece and put it on, and feel a certain way, I know the piece is special and has a point of view. Then I’ve done my job.’

What makes your pieces unique?
‘I really keep it very exclusive. I don’t want to make 100 pieces of the same thing. I feel like if I design something that is reproduced so many times, it would lose its specialness.’

How do you wear diamonds for day?
‘I think it would take large diamonds for someone to not be able to wear them every day. For example, you could take one of my chokers and wear it on the red carpet. Then you can wear it with a ponytail, layer one more piece with it, and it changes the look completely. That instantly makes diamonds more wearable, and more “everyday”.’
