Chimala
New York-based designer Noriko Machida finds inspiration in workwear from the 1950s, 60s and 70s to create the low-profile and laid-back denim collection that is Chimala. The label, which was founded in 2005 and named after an imaginary Himalayan mountain, is rooted in the principles of quality, craftsmanship and timelessness. Each piece is crafted in small batches from natural fibres – organic cotton, hemp and recycled wool, to name a few – which are woven using traditional looms and constructed with meticulous stitches and washes, all done by hand at a dedicated Japanese workshop.
