Drawing on a background in fashion journalism, Natalia Alaverdian founded A.W.A.K.E. Mode in 2012 with the name acting as an anacronym for ‘All Wonderful Adventures Kindle Enthusiasm’. The London-based label marries traditional tailoring codes with whimsical details, inspired by a childhood of reading fairy tales, history books and falling in love with Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano designs. Expect old film references juxtaposed against unorthodox shapes, such as laser-cut circles, asymmetry and avant-garde twists in the label’s selection of tailoring, dresses and skirts.
