Growing up as the daughter of a seamstress in the town of Gifu, Japan, Sacai founder Chitose Abe began making garments at a young age, launching the label in 1999. The designer draws inspiration from her surroundings, observing people around her on the streets of bustling Tokyo, notably the city’s Aoyama district where her studio is located.
